The image most people have in mind is the grater box grater, stainless steel or white one that graces nearly every kitchen in the country. However, there is a large variety of graters on the market to achieve the same, and different results.

Box cheese graters are the more people will be aware of and familiar with. Each side has different sizes of grating slicers and graters to grate different types of things. Usually, two of the sides are shredding the cheese in the traditional way, with a finer grind than the others. The third side is the slice of cheese, giving the largest flakes. The fourth side will be a very fine grid and is useful for cheese and the most difficult ones you want almost grated into a fine powder, ideal for sprinkling. This side is also ideal for grating some spices such as nutmeg, and zesting fruits such as oranges and lemons.

Another type is the mandolin. Not for the clumsy, as they have a blade open and if you are not careful you may end up slicing my knuckles too. Many people prefer a mandoline to slice and grate as they can get better results. The blade is also adjustable to cope with different thicknesses of food that requires grating.A safest method is to look for rotary graters and cheese graters . These consist of a piece of metal shaped in a manner similar to pliers. At the end of the two clamps a wheel with a handle attached is in place, this has a grid on it and the cheese can be placed at the top, the handle turns, which grate the cheese and emerge from the side of the wheel. A downside is that it is only capable of producing a form of cheese. They are, however, available in electronic form for ease. Rotary graters are the cheese to form a more uniform look much more professional, because of the subtle ways in which grated cheese are also ideal if you need some 'cheese for sprinkling.

If you are not sure which one to buy from all different graters on the market, or what we prefer, is the only method of trial and error. Give each one and go see what works best for you. A lot of people prefer the box grater, perhaps because it is more traditional, but more likely because they are cheaper. You will be able to pick one up a couple of pounds. It is worth noting that not all the graters are dishwasher safe, it is important to check if you have a dishwasher and are likely to be put your cheese grater in it, especially since some of them may be difficult to effectively clean by washing hands.
